{"id":315,"date":"2013-02-17T05:32:51","date_gmt":"2013-02-17T05:32:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/suretyone.com\/blog\/?p=315"},"modified":"2017-01-03T16:20:45","modified_gmt":"2017-01-03T16:20:45","slug":"new-mexico-contractor-bond","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/suretyone.com\/blog\/new-mexico-contractor-bond\/","title":{"rendered":"New Mexico Contractor Bond."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In 2008, the New Mexico legislature passed a law requiring contractors to carry a $10,000 <strong><a title=\"Surety One commercial surety page\" href=\"https:\/\/suretyone.com\/commercial-surety-bonds\" target=\"_blank\">Consumer Protection Code Bond<\/a><\/strong> to satisfy the financial responsibility requirement for licensure. \u00a0As of July 1st, 2009, all new licensees and all renewals of licenses issued by the Construction Industries Division (CID) must provide the new bond on a form approved by the CID to replace the previous <strong>New Mexico contractor license bond<\/strong>. \u00a0This marks the beginning of the changeover from the current <a title=\"Surety One\" href=\"https:\/\/suretyone.com\" target=\"_blank\">Contractor\u2019s License Bond<\/a> to the new <a title=\"Surety One commercial surety page\" href=\"https:\/\/suretyone.com\/commercial-surety-bonds\" target=\"_blank\">Contractor\u2019s License Code Bond<\/a>.\u00a0 The current bond pays the state for fines levied against contractors and the new code-compliance bond repays a consumer for costs to correct code violations that the original contractor either refused to correct or was unable to correct.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Highlights of the new bond as per CID:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Claims may be filed by your customers if they feel you have committed a building code violation.<\/li>\n<li>Construction Industries Division (CID) will determine if a violation of a building code has occurred.<\/li>\n<li>According to CID, contractors will be given a \u201creasonable opportunity\u201d to correct a code violation before the bond pays out.<\/li>\n<li>The surety company may pay no more than $10,000 per project, directly to the building owner.<\/li>\n<li>Claims must be made within two years following final inspection or issuance of a Certificate of Occupancy (whichever is earlier) for the project.<\/li>\n<li>Claims may be only for actual cost to repair the code violation (no legal fees).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a title=\"Surety One\" href=\"https:\/\/suretyone.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Surety One, Inc.<\/a>, <strong>New Mexico surety leader<\/strong> is a preferred provider of the <strong><a title=\"Surety One bonds a-z\" href=\"https:\/\/suretyone.com\/all-bonds\" target=\"_blank\">New Mexico Contractors License Code Bond<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0We offer\u00a0these\u00a0to\u00a0experienced applicants regardless of credit condition and where a previous claim may have been made.
