Bond Penalty: $5,000

Pursuant to state law Chapter 246, Sec. 14-52, "No person, firm or corporation may engage in the business of repairing any motor vehicle unless he or she has been issued a repairer's or a limited repairer's license. A Connecticut vehicle repairer bond is one of the requirements of the licensing statute. Per Subsetion (b)(1), each applicant for a repairer's or a limited repairer's license shall furnish a surety bond in the amount of five thousand dollars ($5,000). The bond amount can be increased by the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles in his discretion.

The Connecticut motor vehicle repairer bond is essentially the same obligation as that of auto dealers, lease and rental companies. The obligation is a guarantee that the licensee will comply with the provisions of any state or federal law or regulation relating to the conduct of a auto repair business and will indemnify all losses sustained by any person by reason of any acts which would constitute cause for suspension or revocation of the license. Periodically, the Commissioner may request a financial statement from a licensed vehicle repairer to assess his or her ability to comply with regulations and that he or she possesses sufficient financial resources to conduct the business in a manner consistent with the reasonable security and protection of its customers. The commissioner may grant a license on condition that the applicant post a surety bond that is greater than the minimum amount required by the applicable provisions of the licensing statute.
