Bond Penalty: $50,000

A Louisiana public adjuster bond is the "evidence of financial responsibility" required by state statute to qualify for an insurance adjuster license. This surety bond must be issued by an insurer authorized to issue surety bonds in Louisiana and must be at minimum thousand dollars ($50,000).

The obligation is written to run to the state and must specifically authorize recovery by the Commissioner of Insurance on behalf of any person who sustains damages as the result of erroneous acts, failure to act, conviction of fraud, or conviction of unfair practices in his capacity as a public adjuster. The surety bond is cancelable by the surety company on thirty days' prior written notice to the LDI and the licensee. Although an original Louisiana public adjuster bond is filed along with the applicant's initial license application, the Commissioner may request evidence of financial responsibility at any time he or she deems relevant. Per statute, "The authority to act as a public adjuster shall automatically terminate if the evidence of financial responsibility terminates or becomes impaired." Further information about this surety bond can be found on the LDI website here. Surety bonds and accompanying materials may be submitted to:

Louisiana Department of Insurance
Producer / Public Adjuster Licensing
P.O. Box 94214
Baton Rouge, LA 70802

License applications for Louisiana adjusters are made through the NIPR system. If the applicant holds a resident license outside of the State of Louisiana, examination requirements are generally waived however a resident state license surety bond is NOT valid for Louisiana licensing. The Rules do contemplate the issuance of a Catastophe and Emergency Claims Adjuster license which may act as a temporary waiver of more formal licensing requirements.
