A New Jersey electrician bond is require from all applicant for a license as a electrician (a/k/a electrical contractors or qualified journeyman electricians). The license contemplated under the electrician licensing statute also regulates security alarm installers and locksmiths. In addition to the surety bond, applicant must meet certain prerequisite education and/or apprenticeship standards. A review of §13:31-2.1 is instructive.

Pursuant to NJ §45:5A-19, An electrical contractor may not undertake any electrical work in the State of New Jersey or any political subdivision thereof unless he or she has filed with the Board a New Jersey electrician bond running to the state in the sum of one thousand dollars ($1,000.00) The surety bond must be executed by a surety company authorized to transact business in the State of New Jersey and guarantee that the licensee will faithfully comply with the provisions of the licensing statute. The electrician bond must run for a term of twenty-four (24) months and must be renewed upon expiration for the same period.
