$1,000 Bond Penalty (2 Year Term)

Public adjusters in the State of New York are licensed by the Department of Financial Services. Pursuant to N.Y. ISC. LAW § 2108, an applicant must pass a written examination, prove his or her experience as an adjuster or submit a certificate of prelicensing education, and provide a New York public adjuster bond. The surety bond must be issued in the amount of one thousand dollars ($1,000) and be valid until December 31st, of the corresponding two year license term. The obligation is a compliance guarantee of the adjuster's diligent performance or his or her duties. The surety bond form states that the State may recover from the principal and his or her bond any amount necessary up to the full surety bond penalty if the adjuster, or any sub-licensee of the public adjuster is found guilty of fraudulent or dishonest practices in connection with his or her business as adjuster during the license period for which the public adjuster bond is issued or if he or she is convicted been under any of the sections contained in Article 150 of the Penal Law for an offense(s) committed during such license period. The bond is also subject to any Regulations promulgated after the effective date of the same. Licensing paperwork and adjuster bond should be submitted to:

New York State Department of Financial Services
Licensing Bureau - New York public adjuster bonds
One Commerce Plaza
Albany, NY 12257

Licensing forms and a list of the requirements for public adjusters can be downloaded at the State website at www.dfs.ny.gov. The Department is very anal about proper completion of the bond form, notary certificates and accompanying documentation, so we recommend second review of everything that an applicant expects to submit and to allow us to properly prepare your bond forms.
