Ohio Public Adjuster Bond

An Ohio public adjuster bond must be incorporated in to an adjusters application for licensing in the state. The Ohio Department of Insurance defines an operator as "any person, firm, Association, partnership or corporation who, for compensation, acts on behalf of or aids in any manner, an insurer or insured or another in negotiating for settlement of a claim or claims for loss or damage under any policy of insurance covering real or personal property. An adjuster is also and any person or firm who advertises, solicits business or holds itself out to the public as an adjuster of insurance claims, and any person who for compensation investigates, settles, adjusts, advises, or assists an insurer or insured with reference to claims for such losses on behalf of any such public insurance adjuster."

Pursuant to OH Code 3951.03, a public adjuster shall be issued a license contingent on specific criteria and public adjuster agent certificates for those employed b y certified public adjusters. The superintendent shall issue a public insurance adjuster agent certificate to a person, who is a bona fide employee of a public insurance adjuster without examination, provided said application is made by a person, partnership, association, or corporation engaged in the public insurance adjusting business. Such applicant must provide an Ohio public adjuster bond in the amount of one thousand dollars ($1,000).
