Bond Penalty: $20,000, may be in conjunction with other state talent agency bond requirements

For the purposes of streamlined registration and better regulation, the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA) unified a Professional Representatives Department. Agent members of either legacy regulatory framework can now work through on centralized platform. A SAG-AFTRA surety bond is requires from agents regardless of the agency structure and IN ADDITION TO local licensing requirements. Those requirements are as follows:

SAG Surety Bond

A surety bond(s) for a a total amount of $20,000, listing SAG-AFTRA as the obligee. ($10,000 if working exclusively under one or the other Agency Regulations (e.g. 16(g) or 12-C)). In those states where SAG-AFTRA recognizes an existing state bond requirement, the two bond penalties are combined. For example, a Florida talent agency bond + a $5,000 bond for 16(g) and a $5,000 bond for 12-C (if working under both Agency Regulations). The agency would now be required to post a $10,000 bond with SAG-AFTRA as the obligee and $5,000 bond with the state if working under both Agency Regulations, or a $5,000 bond with SAG-AFTRA as the obligee and a $5,000 bond with the state if working under one).

AFTRA Surety Bond

A surety bond(s) for a total amount of $20,000, naming SAG- AFTRA as the obligee. ($10,000 if working exclusively under one Legacy Union.) In those states where SAG-AFTRA incorporates an existing state bond requirement, the state and Union bond penalties are combined similar to the SAG bond formula.

If the agency that is applying for the membership is in California or New York, the applicant need only provide evidence that he or she has met the state surety bonding and licensing requirements. For example, a California talent agency bond is written in the amount of $50,000 and therefore exceeds the Union's requirements. Per SAG-AFTRA, "** If your State requires a license and / or bond to operate as a talent agency, it is required that copies of these documents are included in the package.Franchise applications cannot be reviewed until the required license and / or bond is submitted to the Professional Representatives Department." Documents should be submitted to either:
