Suretyship is a common practice in Illinois. Many, MANY villages, townships, counties, and cities have enacted municipal codes which require a surety bond in order to obtain contractor and business licenses. Most of these are commercial surety bond class obligations, made up of simple, transactional bonds that do NOT contain contract performance guarantees.

Must be filed to perfect appeal of a civil judgment in order to stay enforcement. Must guarantee, interest and costs.
Permitted under the Illinois Mechanic's Lien Act. Lien discharge bond must be equal to 175% of the lien claim.
