Effective August 1st, 2015 the bond penalty of the North Dakota Water Well Contractor surety bond has been increased from two thousand dollars to fifteen thousand dollars. The original surety bond threshold for a monitoring well, pump and pitless unit, or geothermal system installation contractor remain at two thousand dollars. The obligation is conditioned on faithful performance of all water well, monitoring well, pump and pitless unit, or geothermal system installation contracts performed by the licensee and compliance with the state statute.
According to the North Dakota Water Commission, to become a certified water well contractor must complete a minimum of one year apprenticeship or experience in water well drilling and construction under the direct supervision of a certified water well contractor or have completed a vocational school program of at least one year in water well construction. The Board requires an application and an examination fee in the amount of ten dollars. After filing an applicant may register for the appropriate examination which is offered once per quarter during the months of February, May, August, and November. After successfully passing the state exam the contractor must post a water well contractor surety bond, now in the amount of $15,000. The Board advises that the applicant must file the bond and examination results within six months or reexamination is required.
