Colorado excise tax is collected on motor fuels including gasoline, diesel, aviation fuels and special fuel. Any person who acts as a distributor, supplier, importer, exporter, blender, terminal operator or carrier of fuel in Colorado must be licensed and provide a Colorado fuel distributors bond.  The bond must be issued to the Colorado Department of Revenue in an amount of at leaset three times the licensee’s monthly tax liability for all motor and aviation fuels acquired, imported, offered for sale, or used in Colorado. The bond requirements range from a minimum bond of $25,000 to a maximum bond amount of $200,000 using Colorado fuel distributor bond form DR 7065.  The bond guarantees that the licensee will pay all taxes, penalties and interest due or to become due under the law of Colorado relating to gasoline and/or special fuel, and particularly under section 39-27-101 to section 39-27-218, inclusive, of Colorado Revised Statutes 1973. The nation’s surety leaderSurety One, Inc., will offer terms to all fuel distributors regardless of credit and financial statement condition.
